Hyde Park Happiness

Whew! I'm glad this past week is behind us. Thanks for all of your kind support and help and encouragement. I was happy that Jenn was here. Her presence is calming and inspiring. I was hoping to barely pass that silly exam and am more than grateful that the Lord somehow made up for my deficiencies.  Just nice to have it behind me. Thanks to all of you for putting up with me through it all.

I'm grateful that Jenn and I could see Emma's band's amazing performance in the dark. It was very spectacular! A memorable event, to say the least. I hope you all get a chance to look at the video of it.

We had a wonderful stake conference today with Elder Steven Petersen as our visiting authority. If I had to tell you one thing that I came away with it would be that "Obedience brings blessings. Obedience with exactness brings miracles."  Missionaries know about that, I'm told. I'm going to test it out.

Good things are happening in our family. Thomas's engagement. Jennifer's safe travels. Lauren's feeling better. I don't suppose most of you know that she's been at InstaCare and in the ER for dehydration. She received 4.5 liters of fluid before she could start keeping things down and feeling better. She seems to be having a few more good days than bad days and we're hoping that keeps improving. Emma's band is doing better than ever. I'm so grateful for all of the good things we experience because of all of your goodness.

I thought of all of our grandchildren in Primary programs today as one of the ward primaries sang a musical number in our Stake Conference. I could see in my mind our grandchildren singing with great gusto, "I know He lives! I will follow faithfully! My heart I give to Him. I know that my Savior loves me."  I sure hope they all know that, because He does! I wish we could have seen you all give your talks today. I'm sure you did fabulously - speaking and singing!

I'm still recuperating from a post-exam migraine. I'm doing much better today, but am going to cut this short and get to bed. Have a terrific week!

Flake Fun

25 October 2015 - First off a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Mom for passing her exam!  How incredible is she?  I arrived back in Snowflake safe and sound.  So glad that I was able to see everyone for at least a couple of minutes during this little trip.  Thanks for your hospitality and good times.

We discovered a tender mercy yesterday.  As Mom well knows, little Suzie (our car) was a bit shaky during this trip and after I got back we decided we needed to get the tires rotated and the alignment checked.  So yesterday we took it to the tire shop.  Not long after we handed over the keys one of the guys came back and said "Did you notice the wires sticking out of your tires?"  We went back to look and 2 of the tires were shot.  A third one had a very troublesome spot. The guy told us that when the tires start separating, the car will have a tendency to shake!  Scott asked how much longer they would last and the man told us "Ten minutes before you got here!" So, to make a long story short, the car is getting 4 new tires on Tuesday!    I felt very blessed to have returned home in safety, I'll tell you what!

The weather in Snowflake has turned cold.  Scott built a fire on Friday night which took the chill off of the house.

The primary program went well today.  McKayla remembered her name and her part and no one cried!  I would call that a success.

Congrats to the Mannings!  Yay for babies!  Hope you don't feel too sick.

Interesting story of the week:  Yesterday we were digging up some potatoes and Scott tossed a good sized one over to me.  Now, it took a second for my mind to realize what I was holding.  The potato in my hand was only half of a potato.  But, despite my initial thought, it had not been cut in half by the shovel.  No, it had been EATEN in half, underground.  Folks, I think we have gophers.  Thoughts?

Nilsson News

You'd think that with a post title like ours, that there would actually be some exciting news to read about.  Well hopefully one of these days we will be able to make that happen.  For now, we were primary programming today as well and I know Jenn was too!  It was so fun!  It is hard to believe that next year, Eliza will be up there.  Uh, that is a pretty scary proposition to think about since she seems to be a fearless child.  Heaven help her sunbeam teacher!
The missionary work in our ward has really taken off.  We have been having someone in our home being taught by the missionaries (it really helps when you have a stellar companionship that you can trust) and she seems really sincere and interested.  A mom, her daughter and sister, drove here from California and ended up finding our ward and Garrett has given them some good job referrals.  They are getting baptized on Saturday.  Yesterday a family came to our ward harvest dinner and they are from Russia!  They seem pretty open to being taught as well.  I've been polishing up on the language so hopefully I can communicate better with them. Missionary work is exciting!
It was a blast to see Jenn.  She was able to take part in our science experiment of making bouncy balls.  Thanks for your help sister!  Congrats to mom in passing her test!!!!!  We know how worried you were about it but you honestly had nothing to worry about.  You are amazing!  I heard some awesome compliments about Emma and her marching band show.  In the dark?!  She is amazing too!  Wow.  I have an amazing family.
I have to say that this family challenge is definitely challenging.  Last time I liked having a free day each week, especially with the refraining from sugar goal of mine, but it is good for me!  Along those challenge lines, here is my ponderizing scripture.  I'm hoping it helps me to lessen my reproving moments:
Doctrine and Covenants 121:41-43
41.  No power or influence can or ought to be maintained by virtue of the priesthood, only by persuasion, by long-suffering, by gentleness and meekness, and by love unfeigned.
42.  By kindness and pure knowledge, which shall greatly enlarge the soul without hypocrisy and without guile.
43.  Reproving betimes with sharpness when moved upon by the Holy Ghost, and then showing an increase of love afterwards towards him whom thou hast reproved lest he esteem thee to be his enemy.

Here is something that made me chuckle.  I was putting bowls on the table for lunch when Eliza came over to see what I was doing.  She promptly walked over to the dishwasher and opened it.  I asked her what she was doing.  She matter of factly responded, "I need a flat bowl for my dinner," and with that she grabbed out a plate.

Superfluously Me

Again with the title, I have no idea what superfluously means, but it sounded cool so whatevs.

Okay okay okay... prepare to be amazed with the marching band! I'm pretty sure most of you know the story, but in case anyone missed it I'm totally willing to retell it.  We went to the Davis Cup in Davis county (imagine that) and everyone in the band was super pumped! we were totally prepared to knock AF out of the water! We were kinda really excited! Anyway, we performed around 9 Pm and the stands were very full (mostly AF and Davis people but a few of ours too).  So we ran onto the field and began our show.  We were doing pretty good, and we sounded really great.  Mr. Beach was down on the track cheering us on and we could see the rest of the staff up by the press box.  Well we got to the fourth movement and began it.  We got about ten measures into it and we lost all power in the stadium! everything went pitch black! But without skipping a beat cuz stopping really didn't seem like an option, we kept going and our music shot through the roof! Our dynamic levels sky rocketed and we played so together even though we couldn't really see the drum majors! IT WAS AWESOME! We had a couple run in's but thanks to sister Pederson's inspiration earlier that day, the entire staff had been praying for our safety for an unknown reason! No one was injured and we delivered the most breathtaking performance ever! We listened to the judges tapes the next day and we had the visual judge in tears by the end.  At first we couldn't see anything, but then people started turning on their flashlights until pretty much the whole field was illuminated by cell phone lights! The crowd could not be quiet! They didn't stop cheering until we were well off the field after our performance! when we were exiting the announcer said "That is the best show I've never seen!" The lights and power stayed off the rest of our show but they got them working before the next band had to go on.  We hit our power pose and our drum major saluted the crowd very very enthusiastically and then jumped off the podium he was so pumped! We pretty much all yelled after we were done and several of us were crying;) then we got back to the buses and Mr. Beach got up and gave the best Beach Speech ever! I loved it! then we crowded into the stands to await our fate.  We got second which is great:) We didn't really care what we got honestly because we were so amazing! Then our video within two days got 7,000 views and if that doesn't seem like a lot...it usually gets about 400 views sometimes and mostly it's just from band kids and their families watching it an insane amount of times.  Anyway, the school recognized us and had a standing ovation at one of our assemblies for us so that was cool! then KSL got wind of it and we got on the news! They interviewed a couple of the leaders and did a little story on us:) it's nice to get recognized for something you do right i guess! Here's the link...I hope one of them works!

Manning Musings

The past two weeks have been busy and eventful. Nick is super busy with school but manages to spend time with me which is great! This last week I have been grading midterms for my Music 1010 class and laughing and moaning about some of the crazy things people say and believe about music. It is appalling to Nick and he has to tell his friends all about it but we have lots to laugh about. Following the midterm I had my students do evaluations on their experience in class and what they like and don't like. I have had music students do evaluations before but I was totally unprepared for some of the responses I got back. Here are a few samples to enjoy:
"The short answer questions regarding the jazz guest performance. I found these questions impossible to answer because I was not in class on that particular day. Now, I know that you have said multiple times that attendance is mandatory. Plus, I fully admit that I had no legitimate reason for not attending class on that day. So, why even bring this up? Well, I thought it was worth mentioning because what if I did have a reason for missing that class?"
"Music 1010, personally, has not been an informative experience. The class isn't particularly difficult for me due to my prior knowledge of music...As someone who is very familiar already with the concepts of music, this class has not helped me develop further into understanding and comprehending the complexities of this art. So, for something to be "improved" I suppose I would up the difficulty." (She got a 59% on the midterm)
And my personal favorite..." I don't recall you telling us that we would need to do a listening portion on the test so for future students make sure they take their headphones out and listen."
I was pretty speechless folks!
It was so fun having Jenn up here for a few days. We just wish we could've spent more time with her.
On Friday we had our first prenatal exam with an excellent midwife who just passed her national exam! Way to go mom!
Other than that, Nick is playing with a Brazilian guitarist who will be a guest performer at USU. He will do so great as he always does.
Can't wait to see you all at Thanksgiving!

Hart Happenings

The Primary Program was today which was delightful. Afterward I had a load of people come and tell me that "we sure could hear your son singing". Jack just let it all out. The music leader gave the signal for more volume and Jack gave her exactly that. So funny.
We're just enjoying the beautiful fall weather these days. We had a blast indulging in the quintessential autumn activity of apple harvest at the home base. It was fun to climb the trees, toss the rotten apples to the chickens, and break it up with a rigorous game of football. Visiting with Jenn was definitely a highlight as was being there when mom got the news that she passed her test with flying colors! Pretty sure no one doubted that she would, but she was sure relieved when she got the tangible proof that she is oh so brilliant and capable. Go mom!
I went to a book club last night and we discussed Viktor Frankl's book Man's Search for Meaning. I would highly recommend it! I was struck as I was sitting there by how much I enjoyed this monthly activity. I hope you are all able to tap into activities on a regular basis that lift you up, inspire you, and challenge your mind.
The house hunt continues.....
The boys are loving school and are soaking up everything at an alarming rate! I really have to be on my toes to keep up with them.
Sure love you guys and can't wait to be with you all at Thanksgiving!

Chicken Cannelloni with Roasted Red Bell Pepper Sauce

By popular demand - Canneloni/Canteloni/Cafelone/Bologna
*This recipe freezes really well.  Freezer tip included below.

1 (8oz) pkg - cannelloni/manicotti shells (I think you could use any shell that you can stuff)
4 cups - finely chopped cooked chicken
2 (8oz) pkg - chive & onion cream cheese (I use regular)
1 (10oz) pkg - frozen, chopped spinach, thawed & well drained (or you can steam fresh spinach)
1 cup - mozzarella cheese, grated
1/2 cup - Italian seasoned bread crumbs (I don't add any bread crumbs)
3/4 t - garlic salt
1 t - pepper

Cook pasta & drain.
Stir together remaining ingredients.
Stuff pasta to desired fullness and place in greased baking dish.

Roasted Red Bell Pepper Sauce

2 jars - roasted red bell peppers (I roast my own - see below)
1 jar - creamy alfredo sauce (or you can make your own)
parmesan cheese

Blend all ingredients until smooth.
Pour over stuffed shells.
Bake covered at 350 for 25-30 minutes or until heated through.
Enjoy!!!!

Roasting Bell Peppers

Wash 1-2 large red bell peppers.
Place under broiler on hi for 2-3 minutes.
Rotate pepper until  all sides are blackened.
Remove from oven and place in bowl.
Cover with plastic wrap for 5-10 minutes to allow skins to steam.
Remove skins and enjoy!

Freezer Tip

After stuffing shells, place in baking dish (I use a cheap disposable one from the dollar store) and cover tightly with foil.  You can put the sauce on if you would like but sometimes milked based sauces don't freeze very well.
Remove from freezer and let thaw in fridge overnight.

Family Challenge - Week 2

The challenge is still on! Contenders are neck and neck!  Results from this week:

Ruth     - 64
Elise     - 62
Mom    - 55
Alex     - 54
Emma  - 35
Jim       - 29
Garrett -  6

There is always time to make a comeback! Carry on! Keep going! And let us know what you are "ponderizing" lately!

I'm trying to choose verses from each of the standard works. I began with D&C 6, then focused on Mosiah 4:9-10; now I'm working on the beatitudes found in Matthew 5 (which may take me a while).

Hart Happenings

It's been a while since we checked in here on the "blob". We are all alive and well. The boys have enjoyed some new experiences recently like laser tag which they played at a friend's birthday party. Ian is becoming an excellent babysitter and we sure appreciate how responsible he is and how willing to help out.
We spent a lot of time outside because The weather report predicted a drastic drop in temperatures next week, but it's looking like it might have been a false alarm as the temperatures in the forecast are increasing steadily.
The house hunting saga continues. We haven't tabled the building idea by any means but we've also been looking at pre existing structures. The latest one that caught my eye is a nice 1929 brick home on 4 acres with the most beautiful barn you've ever seen. Seriously. I'm trying to get Alex excited about the prospect of turning the barn into a house. He has some reservations.
We had a great FHE with mom and dad and Emma on Monday. The kids actually remembered the stuff we talked about when I quizzed them about it this morning which is a vast improvement over what they usually retain. Thanks best grandparents ever!
Alex and I enjoyed a leadership dinner and training with his FreeLife company this weekend which was really great. We have met some really stellar people through this organization and it's fun to get together and talk about inspiring things.
We also went on a double date with some friends to our favorite taco wagon and the local corn maze, where we learned that there are serious, life threatening risks associated with agritourism and that we were assuming said risks by entering the corn maze. Dad, what are you not telling us? But it was so fun! Not to brag, but we totally rocked getting through the maze and all exited with a fine click of the heels.

We too, enjoyed a short but welcome UEA break.  I did yard clean up until our garbage can was full to overflowing  and then I was forced to stop because I couldn't put the weeds and grass anywhere else.  We are in the process of trying to exterminate this bermuda grass that is overtaking our yard.  Hold tight to your hats folks, but I have found something that is far worse than bind weed - bermuda grass.  Horrendous stuff!  It doesn't exist in places like Cache Valley and Idaho Falls because of the cooler climate.  It must mean those places are a little higher on the level of celestialization.
The kids are getting excited for Halloween and I'm trying to envision how I'm going to make their costumes.  I think for the first time in about eight years, Garrett and I are going to "dress up," or at least we have a costume idea.  We will definitely take pictures!
Garrett went to the Utah Rehabilitation Conference in Sandy on Friday.  There was a family from Salt Lake that had been invited to be the guest speakers. Both of the children have an extremely rare syndrome.  The arms never fully develop and they only have four fingers and toes on each limb.  It is rare to have one child with this but the chances to have two in the same family is one in 10 billion.  There is only one other family in the world with this same case.  Anyway, it was a very uplifting conference that inspired overcoming any challenge that you face.  That brings me to my ponderizing quote for the week by Richard G. Scott:

"Just when all seems to be going right, challenges often come in multiple doses applied simultaneously. When those trials are not consequences of disobedience, they are evidence that the Lord feels you are ready to grow more.  He therefore gives you experiences which stimulate growth, understanding, and compassion which help polish you for your everlasting benefit.
To get you from where you are to where he wants you to be requires a lot of stretching and that generally entails discomfort and pain...This life is a great lesson in trust - trust in the Lord Jesus Christ."

I wish I could see how the Lord is polishing me because most of the time I feel pretty battered and worn down.  I have to tell you of an experience I had this week.  So, our finances seem to go up and down pretty regularly and we found ourselves in a pretty tight spot.  After looking at the numbers, Garrett and I came to the conclusion it was not going to end good (well actually, Garrett had more faith than I did). I was so upset about the whole situation and quite bitter, but the Lord saw it was time to humble me.  When the deadlines came and went, it all worked without there being any negative results.  When I was looking through our bank statement, it did not make sense, until my eyes fell on our tithing check.  That is the only reason it could have worked.  Tithing has some amazing promises attached to it and I was reminded of them through this experience.  The Lord is very aware of us, even down to our small temporal needs.

Hyde Park Happiness

Wow, Jenn! You get more accomplished in one day than I even think about doing in a whole week! Makes me tired to read about it! But, we are sure excited to have you come! We wish Scott could come, too. We will have to be satisfied to have him here for Thanksgiving :)

Dad had a conference with LDS tech people in Salt Lake. It was eye-opening and he really enjoyed it. He was able to get lots of questions answered and get a feel for where the church is heading with technology. Very interesting. Emma had a UEA break for a couple of days this week. She spent time with Emilee, finished some school assignments, went for a hike with Dad and me, had fun with Lauren. Not extremely exciting, but satisfying. Thomas has thrilling news - but we haven't heard it yet! We hope to catch up with him some time today.... Maybe you'll all know before those of us here. If so, let us know!!

So, I had a terrifying experience this week. I got a call from the IRS letting me know that there were several allegations of fraud on our reported income on our last few tax returns. They had tried several times to notify us, but certified mail was returned and phone calls were not answered. The phone call got very accusing and demanding. Dad was out of town and I had no idea what to do. I went downstairs to pull out our old tax returns (thankfully I keep copies) and see what the deal was. All of the allegations could be true - I do our taxes myself and could easily have made some mistakes. Thomas was still home so I started to tell him about it and completely fell apart! He talked with Dad and they both realized it was a scam. At the time, none of us had heard of this particular scam. I'd heard of things like this happening to other people about other things, and wondered how they could fall for something so obvious. Now I know! These people were so convincing and preyed upon my honesty and willingness to resolve what was surely my mistake! Looking back, I can see the red flags that should have signaled the scam. However, they had all the "evidence" and used all the correct terminology. Fortunately, I didn't give them any personal information they didn't already have. They knew our names and addresses and phone numbers and a few other things about us. They had titles and case numbers and all that stuff. I'm very grateful to Thomas and Dad for being level-headed and helping me through this. I was truly frightened. I believed that Dad was going to come home from Salt Lake and I'd be in jail (that was the threat if I didn't get this resolved immediately). The sheriff was supposed to come within the hour with a warrant for my arrest and Emma would know I was a criminal! It left me feeling very vulnerable and gullible and shaky. It removed any self-confidence I'd had, which wasn't much to begin with! I'm sure it may eventually be funny, but I couldn't function the rest of the day and still have nightmares about it. It's kind of put a cloud over my days ever since; every time the phone rings, I don't want to answer it.  I'm sad that people spend their time doing that to other people. Seems like a miserable way to live. I know you are all smarter than I am,  more informed about current events, and will never fall for something like that. I guess I just innately trust people, which is probably okay most of the time. Just not this time. I'll laugh about it sometime in the future - but don't tease me about it just yet....

We are looking forward to a better week coming up. Can't wait to see Jenn. She will be a calming influence as I will be taking my 7 hour national certification exam this week. Any prayers will be welcomed (and invited)! Hopefully I can stop bugging the family about needing to study if I get this over with.

Have a great week, All!!

Flake Frenzy

18 October 2015 - Well, we did it again.  We purchased another house and signed the closing papers on Friday.  The current tenants will be there for the rest of the month and then we'll go in and do a little bit of painting and tidying up.  Then it will be ready to rent out again!

This week has been pretty decent.  I spent the week in meetings and in moving my office to Holbrook.   We both had Friday off which was really nice.  We were able to accomplish quite a bit.  We bottled what could be our last batch of tomatoes (we only got 32 quarts this year), helped TJ (Scott's cousin) pour the footings for his house, got the old tiller in semi-working condition (we just need an engine), helped a neighbor set up her daughter's wedding reception, changed the oil in the car, and other miscellaneous things.
This is the tiller that Scott is rebuilding

As some of you know, I'm coming up to Logan this week and would love to see whoever is around!

Here are some pictures from the Blood Moon the other week!

Manning Musings

Well, we have definitely not been on the blog for awhile! When school started life went into high gear! School has been great though. Nick has a super busy schedule this semester and he is trying to keep his head above water. I am teaching two sections of music 1010 and have enjoyed it for the most part. It is a different experience teaching non-music majors but I have been learning a lot in my research and teaching.
Thank you all for your sweet birthday wishes. It was a wonderful day! Nick sent me on a treasure hunt in our little apartment to find presents and took me to dinner and we watched a movie together. The best birthday ever!
We are looking forward to Thanksgiving and seeing everybody. We are also looking forward to a break!

Hyde Park P.S.

I forgot to tell you my "Ponderizing" goal. I've been feeling more than my regular quota of inadequate lately, so I pulled out a quote that has helped me in the past to ponderize in conjunction with D & C 6:20.  You can read the scripture on your own, but here is the quote:

"Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, and fabulous? Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It is not just in some of us; it is in everyone and as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others."   Marianne Williamson

Happy in Hyde Park

How wonderful was conference?!! Such an uplifting, motivating, invigorating weekend. It counts as my favorite weekend(s) of the year, for sure - with or without a headache. We were especially glad for the Harts' and Nilssons' company on that weekend. We enjoyed listening and discussing the amazing messages and solidified our family challenge goals.

Speaking of the Family Challenge:  So, for this first week, there were 20 points possible because we began on Wednesday. The breakdown is this...
Ruth - 20
Elise - 19
Alex - 18
Mom - 16
Dad   - 5
Garrett - 5
Emma - 4

Just so everyone knows, we are all working on the challenge - and even some who didn't sign up. But, as Alex very eloquently said, "return and report" is a principle of the gospel! We must all remember to report every day how we've done (and we get an extra point as an incentive). Don't get discouraged if you have a bad day! Hang in there! Keep going! "Be calm and challenge on".....!!!

Emma is in the midst of her marching band competition season and feels good about their performances, regardless of what the judges say. They do have a great show and I hope you all get to see it sometime this season. Thomas is "Big Blue-ing" away. Lots of games. Lots of time. He's loving it.  Dad is swimming in stake work and work work. We attended a retirement presentation this week and discovered that we won't be rich after Dad retires, but should get along okay, which was comforting. You should all take a financial planning class for young couples so you can do better at preparing than we have! I'm still trying to prepare for the NARM exam. I was told at a conference I went to recently that it's like the Bar Exam for lawyers. It's a big deal. I'm trying to study a little for it each day. Hope it pays off. I'll take the exam at Weber State in a few weeks.

I am enjoying my new porch bench - see photo below! Even though I don't get to sit on it often, I love seeing it whenever I drive into the driveway. Thanks to Ruth for constructing it and Elise and Emma and Peter for painting it! Maybe you all know already, but it is made from the headboard and footboard of my mother's bed. Kind of a neat family history treasure.

When looking for a certificate I need to turn in for graduation, I came across the Ping-Pong bracket list from a few years back that I knew I had kept for Alex, but couldn't find when he wanted it. Here it is, in all its glory! It must have been a competition played while Lauren was on her mission because she is not listed as a contender. Alex wanted you all to see that he was truly in the championship playoff bracket at one time :)

Nilsson News

We are still here even though our presence has not been very good on the blog lately!  This family challenge has been great and has got me up and going and accomplishing goals.  I am very sore and I don't there is a muscle in my body that doesn't ache, but oh it the good kind of ache.  It's great!  I want to thank all of you for contributing to my home improvement fund;)  I have to call it that because my ideas for the winnings change just about every day (new pantry, front door makeover, kitchen update, bathroom, etc.).  I don't know why it takes an actual challenge to get me moving but it does and it's so invigorating.
Conference was just wonderful and I look.  On Sunday we got to spend some quality time with the Harts and Bellistons.  We saw Nick for a few minutes but he didn't stay long because he was being a good hubby and taking care of Lauren who had a bad headache.

Yesterday we did applesauce.  I have to thank mom for the wonderful memory foam kitchen mat because it saved my feet during all the apple cutting!  Addy and Emerson were troopers and did all the squashing and cranking.  I think we are about through with the harvest but now I need to arrange my storage room so you can find all this yummy goodness.

Updates: Henry has one tooth and another barely visible.  Eliza is still working on her potty training (sigh).  Emerson has discovered the joy in reading once he found out that grandma pays him for his pages.  Addy is preparing for her halloween piano recital .  Garrett is training for the Moab Marathon which is in November.  I have resumed my oil painting now that my neighbor has returned from her mission.  Last but not least, our chickens have now begun the hobby of egg laying.

The scripture I decided to ponderize this week is D&C 101:38
"And seek the face of the Lord always, that in patience ye may possess your souls.  And ye shall have eternal life."
Short and sweet but it has been a good one for me to think about this week.  I am not a patient person, and it looks like I'm going to need to change that.

Flake Fun

11 October 2015 - This weekend was quite productive.  We bottled some tomatoes, chopped up some oak (what we cut last weekend but it has been too dark and wet to cut up), cleaned the house and attended the Elders quorum activity.  We also received a load of dirt and with the help of Dad Flake, a tractor and a 4-wheeler, we leveled out our lane.  Now there are no pot holes!

Work this week was pretty normal for Scott.  He has been assigned some new accounts so he is learning how to manage those.  I was informed this week that the supervision of my program is being shifted to the emergency manager. That means that I will be working from Holbrook now and sharing a small office with my boss and another coworker.  I am trying to look on the bright side: I get to have lunch with Scott now!

Scott's cousin broke ground for his new house this week which is very exciting.  It made me think about the Harts.  Are you guys going to build? We'd love to come help!  And Ruth, we're pretty good at bathroom remodels too!  Just let us know when! Sorry Mom, don't think we'd be much help with your exam but we'll support you in whatever way we can!

Flake Fun

4 October 2015 - Conference was inspiring, wasn't it?  Hope you all had an enjoyable and thought provoking time watching or listening to it.

This week was fairly normal.  This weekend was very productive. We canned some tomatoes and got some little things done that were on our to do list.  We also cut our last cord of oak which was exhausting but it is now done and I think we have enough wood to last us through the winter.

We saw a skunk last night while driving home from Randy & Dona's house. Luckily we escaped without a scent!

We are starting to plan our garden harvest and preparation for next year.  Scott is researching crop rotation and other such things in the USU Extension book that Dad gave us.  Wonderful and helpful information.  How are the other family gardens?  Winding down?

Yesterday we discussed our Thanksgiving plans and at this point we should be driving up on Wednesday, weather permitting.  It is hard to believe that the holidays are upon us already!  Can't wait to see you all soon!
