Hyde Park Highlights

Joe, those grapes are incredible!  Yummy!!  If you want me to bring the juicer down, let me know....

So, I got to see 92% of the eclipse in Salt Lake City. Not nearly as fun as totality and being with family in Idaho. But it was still good - and I got to renew my license. It was great to see the pictures and hear the stories from everyone's perspective. Dad and Emma agreed that it was definitely worth the drive to be there. Thanks for sending the pictures - and count us in for Texas, Australia and Nephi in the coming eclipse years!!!

The YSA students returned this weekend, which made things a bit crazy at church today. There is a great energy and spirit that comes with the beginning of a semester.  Dad and I spoke tonight at a stake fireside, which always terrifies me. But it is over and we both survived. The really great part about sitting on the stand is hearing them sing.  Boy, do they ever sing those hymns! And that brings a really amazing spirit to the meetings.

I spent another day at an IV skills class in Salt Lake this week - and have bruises to show for my effort. Dad and Emma came with me and drove down to see Lauren while I was poking and getting poked. They enjoyed their short visit in American Fork and when they returned we did some business at Zion's Bank, then went shopping for a few things for Emma. We were shocked when we went to the Gateway Mall and found most of the stores closed up!  It was rather eerie with only a handful of places still open. Very strange. Dad said it has been purchased, but the new owners haven't done much with it yet.

We are very much enjoying the harvest. I wish we lived closer to Joe so we could trade some berries for grapes.  We have an abundance of raspberries and blackberries, but not many grapes. The beans are also on, as well as tomatoes and peppers. We've also dug up some potatoes and onions and the corn is looking about ready, also. We'll be picking apples before long, too! Gotta love this delicious time of year!

I applied for a midwifery license in Idaho a while back and heard from them this week and was granted a license to practice there. I don't plan to go very far into Idaho, but there may be a few moms I can help in the Franklin and Preston area.

Great things to look forward to next weekend - Emerson's baptism and Hope's blessing. We hope to get to both events and see some of you there!  Love you all!

Belliston Update

I must say the eclipse was almost perfect!  If Lori and the rest of our kids could have been there it would have been 100% perfect.  I haven't stopped talking about it since.  Grace and Grant had a great time in Idaho with their cousins and now Grant wants to be home schooled.  I don't think he knows what that's all about but he thinks it sounds like fun.  It took us 9.5 hours to get home and I think we could have safely tacked on another hour or two or three if all 7 of us had been in the car.  Grace and Grant were champs on the way home and we had a good time.

I got my first name to take to the temple this week.  I'm still not exactly sure how it happened but our favorite grandpa, William J Excell, is now ready to take the plunge.  It's a good thing this genealogy thing is so easy now days, because it's still pretty complicated to me.

We are up to our ears in grapes.  We spent about 15 minutes last night picking grapes and filled up  huge bucket that we were able to share with 8 of our neighbors.  We still have a lot more so if anybody needs some grapes, come on by.

I think we will be blessing baby hope next week at 1:00 so feel free to come but please don't feel obligated.

We are saving our pennies for the next solar eclipse in Australia.  Who's in??

Nilsson News

Emma, you are so funny!  Um, yes I will be at your endowment session but you definitely pose a problem for us with not being available to babysit.  My little sis is growing up (sniffle, tear).  College will be great and it sounds like Jenn pretty well prepared you with the most needed essentials.  Word of advice, beware of awesome guys on skateboards that "Could be wicked (or rebellious) and wouldn't."  Singing tenors also have a way of swooning as well so I'd take caution in that realm.  Also, don't keep announcing the countdown to your mission unless you don't plan on going because it really got me in trouble;)
So yes, the eclipse was completely out of this world!  Literally.  I have never seen anything as spectacular as that and I think I will definitely travel to see the next one that happens in the USA seven years from now.  I was so amazed that you couldn't really tell that the sun was being covered unless you had the glasses on and then all of the sudden it was totality!  You definitely should have Alex tell you his story of the poor, uniformed soul who is driving along when totality hits.  Hilarious!  Joe, you may suggest it to Studio C.  What an experience!
Well, yesterday Garrett was cutting down a pine tree and it fell on our house.  It was pretty exciting and we are grateful that no one was hurt, other than our step ladder who sadly was the only that didn't get out of the way in time.  Only cosmetic damage was done.
I was given the dream calling this week!  I will now be serving as the primary chorister.  Hip, hip hooray!  I am really excited.  Emerson will be getting baptized this Saturday at 10:00.  You are all welcome to come but I totally understand if that isn't possible.  I will be sending you an email invite since I have not been on the ball and put them in the mail in time.
Love you all!

...And Loving It

So yeah the eclipse was pretty much the coolest thing on the face of the planet, and the traffic was actually the worst thing on the face of the planet.... Opposition in all things, right? But anyway, I'm very glad I went and it was SUPER fun.  Y'all shouldn't be so far away.

School starts this week so that'll be an adventure.  I've got Chem 1010, Philosophy, English 2010, Nutrition 1030, Institute, Zumba, and Ice Skating.  Pray for me ;) Nah it'll be a good time, just not lots of time to do fun things, which is really sad because I had a REALLY fun summer.  Dad took me on a tour of all my buildings for this semester and I am proud to say between Zumba and Ice Skating, I will get in my cardio running from one side of campus to the other in ten minutes.

Do you know Brother Day? He's a bishop in dad's stake and he's really funny.  We ran into him on campus the other day and he promptly told me not to go on a mission because he had four or five boys for me to try before I made any hasty decisions.  Ya, not happening pal.  That's for BYU only I'm afraid.  Congratulations to me, I can start my papers in December, have my call by February and be outta here by May! Also I think I'll be going to the temple to get my endowments relatively soon and was hoping maybe some of you could come? I'm afraid I can't babysit your kids though.... Also we should go back and have a redo of all your weddings so I can come.  Deal?

If you have any survival tips for college, I'd love to hear them.  Jenn gave me a college survival kit for Christmas and I'm proud to say I ate all my oreos, have pepper spray in my purse, a head lamp in the car, phase ten for when I go to the library to 'study', and face cards for when I feel rebellious.  Anything else I need?

Love you all. Have a great week not going to college ;)

Hart Happenings

So, the eclipse.....it eclipsed every expectation that we had.  Thanks to everyone who came and especially those who paid for the eclipse in travel time.  That traffic sounded brutal.  Hopefully Dad will get some pictures posted.  It was unreal.  Here are the boys' thoughts on the experience:
Ian: I absolutely loved it! I loved how it got dark and cold and our chickens went crazy! And I saw the shadow bands.
Jack: I liked all of the company.  The eclipse was just outstanding, amazing!
Peter: More sausage please! (we had pancakes and sausage for breakfast that day).  I liked the full thing. (when the sun was completely covered).

I think this summer will go down in the Hart books as the most guest-filled summer ever!  It has been wonderful to see so much family and to spend time with friends.  It has been pretty much back to back action, and Tuesday, we woke up to a quiet, empty house.  The boys shut themselves in their respective rooms for the whole day, laying in bed listening to Harry Potter.  I asked them if they were feeling okay and Jack said "Yes, but mom, I just need to recover a little bit." Haha!  They recovered quickly, never fear!

Peter had his first soccer game this weekend.  It was spectacular!  I had forgotten how entertaining 5-year-old sporting events are.  Alex and I laughed the whole time.  Peter's team name is The Green Pterodactyl Ninja Lasers and they are a force!  There is one little guy on the team who consistently scored for the other team and another one who couldn't stay on his feet. I think they all had a ball!

We went and picked raspberries with Ruth and co. out at the U-Pick place just down the street from them.  The kids picked a bit and then had a blast running up and down the rows of berries.  I made a couple of batches of jam that Peter promptly gave away to his friends and cousins (kidding, not all of it anyway) and we still had plenty to freeze.  We also enjoyed the best parfaits ever for lunch that day.  I love berry season!  We still need to get down to Mom and Dad's house and snitch us some blackberries before those are all gone!

Anyway, it was so good to see those of you who were able to come up last weekend.  Alex loved playing corn hole and frisbee with the guys and it was so nice to visit (sorry I kept you up so late Dad) and eat and just share the same space as my favorite people on the planet!

Our front room has been dubbed Lego Land. We inherited gazillions of Legos from a friend and the boys love to take all the Legos down and rummage through them and build magnificent things.  It is fun to see what their minds come up with.

Good luck to everyone getting back to school this week!  It's always kind of nice to get back into a schedule after the fun/crazy of summer.

I'm rambling, so I think I'll sign off.  Sure love everyone!

Hyde Park Highlights

Dad and I celebrated our 38 years together this last week. We woke up to Emma making crepes for us! What a sweetie.  I had been up all night at a birth, so it was nice to not have to worry about making breakfast. That day we went to the birth center for an appointment with Jamie Martin (your cousin) because I will be helping her with her baby that is due in February, then we drove to Provo to attend the wedding reception for my cousin, Mike's, daughter. Uncle Paul and Aunt Barbara were there, along with many cousins I haven't seen for years - and their children whom I've never seen! It was a great, short reunion. A very good anniversary!

I also helped set up for a wedding reception for a family in our ward. It felt like we were focused on marriage a lot this week. It's a great thing, marriage. I wish the world wasn't so confused about it. Keep staying married and celebrating the blessing it is!

It was fun to see those who could come for the "Cousins Reunion" in Provo. There was a decent turn out and Grandpa was delighted (which was the goal!). It will be fun if it can become a tradition - even every 3 years would be good to get together.

Lori Bradshaw said to tell our children hello, so, "Hello," from Sister Bradshaw.  She said, "I am so proud of your beautiful children! They're not even my children and I'm very proud of them!" We hadn't even said anything about what you are all doing, but she just knew she'd be proud of you no matter what! In fact, we don't say anything when we go visit her - literally.  Last night we were there nearly two hours and didn't say more than 5 words to her! She needs to talk when she has someone stop by!  Don't forget to visit the shut-ins. It must be terribly lonely...

Onward and forward and upward this week!! Safe travels to those who are heading to the eclipse gathering spot! I do hope to join you, but am still not sure at this point if I'll be able to.
Oh, and Happy Birthday to Emerson tomorrow!!

....And Loving It

I'm probably not loving it as much as usual but hey, that's life.  I honestly don't have anything to say this week, so I'm just going to ask all of you for suggestions of how to college.  I'm really not very excited to start, mostly because I've had a great summer and I don't want it to end, but also I burned myself out with We the People the last three months of school :P Anyway, what can I do to enjoy college and have a good time, but also get all my stuff done? I'm not a fan of those get together's that are like, 'hey, you don't have any friends so come join us and lets play super awkward games and embarrass everybody' or anything, so I probably won't be doing the whole forced social thing, but other than that, do y'all have any ideas? :) if so I'd love to hear about them.  School starts in about two weeks! Love you all.  Have a great week.

Flake Fun

8 August 2017 - These last couple of weeks have been quite busy but good.  We finally got our house rented which was a fantastic day.  We rented to a cute couple with 4 children.  We think it will work out really well.

The new job is going well.  I learn a lot every day and come home pretty tired at the end of the day.

Our garden is not faring so well and we can't figure out what exactly is wrong.  The potatoes and beans are great and we did harvest and eat our artichoke.  It is a lot of work for not much food but it was fun to try anyway.

We are excited to see everyone who can make it to Idaho Falls in a couple of weeks!  Love you all!

... And Loving It

Howdy fam.  Not lots to report even though I haven't been on for awhile.  A few weeks ago I got to go to Yanny and Joe's houses which was super fun and I loved it a lot.  Thanks for letting me over siblings! it's really the greatest.

Band camp was this week, which basically means I'm really tired and tan.  We learned the whole show which was cool and hopefully the kids don't forget the whole thing when they come back on the fifteenth.  I think the show is one that the kids really like and can get behind which always helps performances be a lot more fun.  The staff is comprised completely of rookies so that's definitely interesting. We have a lot of fun, but we probably don't get as much done as the last staff did.  Which is totally fine by me!! we have lots of fun and we actually like what we're doing so that's a nice change from the last staff.

Anyway, that's about it for this time around! hope you all have a great week! love you.
