Belliston Changes

So there are a couple of changes around here lately.  The biggest one is that our ceiling was leaking on the main floor and we discovered it was from the shower upstairs.  After looking into it we found that the shower floor was completely rotted so we decided to get a new shower and re-do the whole bathroom in the process.  I'll attach some pictures.
The second bit of news is now that we have a new bathroom we've decided to sell the house.  I was offered a job up in Salt Lake and we feel really good about the opportunity so we are going to move up that direction.  Hopefully the Bountiful area.  I will be doing pretty much the same thing I do at BYU but for different projects.  I know they are are working on a Pixar film right now which is kind of cool.  I'll be starting the first week for April.
Grace and Grant signed up for soccer this year which will be fun to watch.  They have been playing soccer in our yard nearly every day and the best is when the teenage boys knock on our door asking if they can play soccer with the kids.
That's about it for us.  We're excited to see everybody in a couple of months!

T&T in Texas

Hello Family!

This is Tori, sorry I haven't been able to blog on here much yet, but here we are! I'm actually hoping to start blogging again for myself so I hope to move forward with that soon.

Our life update right now:

We have a week of work and then we leave for Hawaii this Saturday! We will be meeting most of my family in Vegas and then flying to Kauai on Sunday and then Oahu Wednesday and back home that Saturday. We are excited and are in need of a tropical vacation! Can't wait!

Thomas has his last day of work on Friday and he's in the middle of scheduling June clinics in Utah with any Drill or Cheer teams that are interested, even Dance studios. He's also applying and interviewing with a variety of different jobs. He got offered a position to sell gym memberships at our gym while he was playing some ball. It was out of the blue and really neat to have that opportunity just given to him. He still will think it over though and needs more information but regardless, we pray and we know that the Lord will guide us.
Thomas is most likely going to be getting his personal training certification soon as well! We are excited for that so he can personally train someone at any gym or even from home!

I currently have a crazy month in April. I may need to fly out the Sunday we get back home to do some noise surveys on a cruise ship departing from Florida. I hear more about the job this week so it should be a for sure deal once I can get things booked and verified. It's going to be long hours but it will be neat to see how workers work and live on a cruise ship. I've always been curious! My job has had all these random, challenging, but neat experiences come up! I never know what's next and I'm sorry if it's been hard to explain what I do! I'm a safety HSE consultant surveying to make sure businesses comply with OSHA and other regulations. The work just varies! I don't even know what's next sometimes.
I recently was in a week long class to get my mold consultant certification this past week. So now I know how to inspect for mold and I'm a lot more aware. Really interesting and so random to add to my certifications but it's good information to know. I now just need to take an exam and get my Texas license for it.
That's a little about me and my job!

Rudy got a haircut! We wanted his standard bear cut or just a trim but it ended up being a shave but his head and tail is fluffy so he looks like a bobble head! We were kinda sad at first but we know it'll grow back and we got over it just fine! May be good for him since it's been around 80 degrees already here. They say it may be a really hot summer here. So although we love this weather now, we are not excited for the 110+ weather and high humidity. We hope it won't be that bad!

We are trying to see more in Houston so we can be more fun to talk to about what we do here! Recently, we were able to do a pretty epic mini golf course! And we are hoping to do some more sight seeing starting around May.  I wish we had more fun news and excited things to say we saw but stay tuned for that!

HP HQ Highlights

I really like the new name given by Elise to our home base! (HP HQ - Hyde Park Headquarters) Thought I'd start using it in all family correspondence. Thanks, Elise!

If you've even wondered why the internet was created, I have the answer. Way back when, the internet was invented for our Belliston Family Adventures Blog! Of course, it is used today for many other, less important, things but that is the ultimate reason for the existence of the internet. I am certain about that. For me, it is a place of information, entertainment, belonging, support, encouragement,.... I absolutely LOVE reading the blog posts!!!  I am always amused at the antics of the Springville Bellistons and most recently by the thought of Ruth decorating (and participating in!) a princess party! I have been touched by the continuing encouragement and support given by older siblings to younger ones. It is delightful to read about birthdays and garden plans, mission plans, house plans, and even about what you learn as you attend funerals. If I was as articulate as Elise, I might be able to describe how I dearly love reading our blog. Thanks for your efforts to contribute even when your weeks are so busy.

As you know, Lauren has been very ill. Many in our family have experienced several of the bugs that have made the rounds this winter - some more than once! Thanks for your prayers and encouragement for Jenn when she was so sick, for the Nilsson clan, and again for Lauren and her baby at this time. She is still not up to par. She hasn't been for quite a while. Nick is wonderful and is helping her to stay in bed, like the doctor recommended (and which isn't easy at all with a two-year-old to care for). Thanks to Jenn for the credible information about this particular flu and what can be done to help the suffering. Being as far apart as we are, we can't always physically be there, but the prayers are a tangible help. The supportive, thoughtful and encouraging texts are so welcomed and appreciated. Thanks for being pretty much the greatest family around!

Speaking of sickness, I had an unusual experience at a birth recently. The mom had twin girls by c-section about 19 months ago and really wanted to have a vaginal birth this time around. She and her family had been sick with various things for a month previous to her going into labor - sinus infection, UTIs, stomach flu and then respiratory flu. They were miserable! We kept thinking, "just don't let the baby come until the family is better!" Well, baby listened. But the labor was very, very long and mom didn't really progress, even with quite strong contractions. After 38 hours of labor, and still only 3-4 cm dilated, we took her to the hospital. The doctor who delivered her twins also attended her this time, and said she could still try for a vaginal birth. She labored another 7 hours before finally giving birth to an 11 lb. 2 oz, 22.5 in. baby girl!! Incredible! Seems like baby had just been biding her time, staying healthy and growing. We are all very glad she's here.

There will be an email coming to you shortly about some plans for the middle of May, but as a precursor.... We are hoping that most of you will be available the weekend of May 11-14 for a "mini-family gathering." We will plan on having dinner and activities (including a birthday party for Joe's big #35, ping pong tourney, fun at the park and a family council). Emma will speak in church that Sunday and we may have some additional company after church. You are welcome to stay as many days and nights as you are able. There will definitely be food and conversation. We won't have quite as many goings-on as usual, but it will be nice to have an official family gathering when everyone may already be planning to be here. Let us know what you think and if you are able to attend.

Dad's been doing ward conferences, so it wasn't unusual for him to speak in church today. However, Ruth also spoke in church today. And so did Emma. What fortunate ward members in those wards! I was blessed to hear Dad and Emma in the different wards they spoke in and would love to have heard Ruth speak about music. I've been thinking about Emma's topic. She was assigned to speak about the first 4 days of the last week of the Savior's life - Easter week. Today is Palm Sunday, the day of the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem. Emma spoke of the different people who were present and their responses to that event. Some waved palm branches to honor him and threw their clothes on the road for the donkey to walk on; others had to ask, "who is this?" Of course others were angry and plotting how to get rid of the man on the donkey (Pharisees and other leaders). Emma mused, "Sometimes I think the Savior already has made a triumphal entry into each of our lives, but we may not have recognized it... He isn't going to come crashing through the walls of our apartments, declaring who he is. Most likely, he'll make a triumphant entry line upon line, precept upon precept, here a little, there a little, by the quiet whisperings of the spirit, reaffirming the fact that he is always there, even when we don't see him." Such a great thought, especially to ponder on this coming week. Have we welcomed Him? How are we honoring Him? What are we willing to learn from Him?

Have a wonderful Easter week and preparing for General Conference! We would love to see some of you if you happen this way for conference!

Nilsson News

Hello family!  We have surviven (it's a new word I came up with to describe this week, it's a mix between survived and driven) this crazy week!  I'll work my way backwards.  Yesterday, we attended the funeral for Garrett's grandma in American Fork.  She lived to her 100th year.  In October is her 100th birthday.  It was a very nice gathering and wonderful memories were shared.  We were able to see many family members that we don't get to see very often any more.  It seems like at this point in life you gather for funerals or weddings.  Hopefully we'll keep the annual gatherings going for this Belliston clan!  Just before driving to the funeral, we watched Addy participate in her clogging competition in Pocatello.  She did a great job and truly enjoyed herself.
On Thursday, we hosted our homeschool great brain group.  We learned some pretty amazing things about the new seven wonders of the world, eyes, how to walk on eggs, stars, vitamins, buoyancy, coral reefs, and poetry.  It is so intriguing to see what things interest kids these days and boy, are they smart!
Wednesday, I was in charge of decorating for the Relief Society birthday party.  It was a huge stretch for me.  I consented to do it before they gave me the theme: of royal birth or rather #princessparty.  Tomboy, rough and tumble Ruth planning a princess party?  Yes, you can laugh.  Outloud.  I sure did.  I think it turned out pretty nice aside from the sequin plastic tiaras that they gave me to put at each place setting (choke, sputter, gag).  I learned that as long as you have yards and yards of tulle, you can turn anything into a princess party.
Last, but not least.....drum roll.......the fireplace facelift is complete!!!!!!  It took blood, sweat and tears, oh, and a new saw for my neighbor since I accidentally chopped the cord in half.  But, I love it and it is a project that I started and actually finished (you can tell Alex that it is possible for me to do!).   Here are some pics
This is day #1:

Ta dah!  We are loving it.  I was so looking forward to having a mantle to decorate but for now, I'm liking the clean slate look.  The flowers were from the artistic hand of Elise Hart.
As for this week, we are not traveling anywhere and are looking forward to getting our hands dirty in the greenhouse.  Can't wait!  We'll make spring happen whether it's ready or not!
P.S.  I'm envious of the Arizona-ites today as we had to move our clocks forward an hour.

Hart Happenings

Greetings family!
It was so fun to see those of you whom we did see at HP HQ (Hyde Park headquarters).  The temple was so great!  Always neat to be there with family.  Emma was so composed and glow-y.  I look forward to many more occasions to be in the temple with you guys.
The big blue presentation was very exciting.  Thomas really is a rock star!  I can't believe how good he does the whole mascot thing.  My boys are over the moon proud that they are related to him.  Thanks for getting tickets for all of us T, and for making sure we all got in Victoria!
The hotel was a kick for the kids.  They had fun being there with their cousins and eating breakfast together, playing on the big touchscreen they had to color on in the lobby, and all the hot chocolate they could drink, which is a lot, come to find out.
The snowstorm was phenomenal!  It really dumped on us.  When Alex pulled up the next morning to collect us, there was still a good 6-8 inches on the top of the car!  We were thrilled with that kind of sky output!
A few days before we joined up with everyone in Utah, Mom and Dad were up here to help us celebrate Ian's 12th birthday.  Wha????!!!  I know.  I may or may not have had a substantial meltdown in the car all by myself after a trip to the grocery store the night before the big day.  They just getting older and more awesome!  He and Addy spent the morning learning how to make creampuffs (his favorite treat) with Grandma, and then he got sent out into the wilderness with a pack full of essential items and a trusty companion (Chester) for his rite of passage journey.  He came back a man, and then had to proceed through a series of challenges to earn the right to be 12.  Thanks to Ruth's family and Mom and Dad for participating in the big day.  It meant a lot to Ian.  And also, a huge shout out to Emma who made 2 banana cream pies plus one mini one just for Ian and sent them up here with Grandma.  Totally the extra mile!  Ian raves about her pies.
So happenings just keep happening up here.....
This week has been a busy one.  Preliminary meetings for the kids' gardening program, lots of client meetings and walk-throughs for the businesses Alex is selling, piano lessons, scouts, choir, library, church callings, etc.... Probably very similar to all of your weeks, actually!  The weather smiled on us yesterday and we spent the better part of the day out in the sun pruning at the community gardens and in our front yard.  We made some good progress.....or at least we're off to a good start.....still so much to do!
The main highlight for the week though was Ian receiving the priesthood today.  He is so eager to engage in the gospel on a more grown-up level.  It blows my mind that we have a priesthood-holding young man in the family now.  The best one I've ever met, in fact!  He also got his temple recommend today and he is looking forward to his first baptism excursion on Tuesday morning.  Hooray!
And just to put it on your radar, I know I raved about this to a bunch of you last summer, but BYU-Idaho does a family Education Week, with classes/activities for the kids, free swimming, etc...But I thought it could be a potentially great experience for cousins to enjoy together.  The dates this year are August 2, 3, and 4.  If that sounds interesting to you, we'd love to host anyone who wants to come.  Go check out their website: http://www.byui.edu/education-week
Anyway, that's about it for us.  We are excited for the upcoming week, with plans to play in Ruth's greenhouse and potentially start some seeds!  Yipee!
See you sometime I hope!  Sooner than later please!

Flake Fun

Last Saturday we rode the train to the Grand Canyon.  It was awesome.  Scott's friend Joe had purchased the tickets but at the last minute wasn't able to go so he offered them to us.  We left early and got some neat pictures as the train pulled up.  Since it was the first Saturday of the month the train was being pulled by a steam locomotive which was really neat.  We were seated in the dome so we were able to have a great view.  There was also a family from Australia in our area and their 4-year old son, George, was adorable.  He was a bit concerned when the train was "robbed" but was brave enough to give the bandit a high five.

It has been raining today which is nice.  We can use all of the moisture that we can get.

Still hoping to get an update on last week and how the temple and Big Blue celebrations were...

Hope that you all have a great week!
