28 June 2014 - On Thursday my new boss, John, stepped into my office and asked if I wanted to see a forest fire. So we hopped in the company Tahoe and raced over to our neighbor Apache County. As we got closer John started reminding me of Dad, twisting his body to get the perfect picture! We turned onto a dirt road and were being followed by a big forest service truck. We came around the bend and there was a sheriff's office road block. John reached over and flipped on our red & blue lights (yes, my work vehicle has cop lights) and we passed the road block and pulled over to talk to the officers. They got us up to date and told us that we needed to go down to the local fire station because that is where the command post was being set up. They would be able to give us more information and let us know if there was anything that we could do.
We pulled up and were drafted! John was asked to be the operations section chief (make sure things were running smoothly) and I was asked to be the logistics section chief (keeping up to date list of resources available and what everyone was doing.)
To make a long story short, it was exhausting but a very eye opening experience. The fire is still burning but seems to be under control for the most part.
You are amazing, Jenn! Please be careful on all of your adventures with your new job. It sounds very exciting, or at least interesting...
ReplyDeleteWhat a rush! I think all mom cars should come equipped with flashing light too. It seems like we're always dashing to and for in a state of emergency. Flashing lights would come in handy. Sounds like quite the new job. No quiet life behind a desk these days! Keep the stories coming!
